1. What does G.L.R.S.A. stand for?

G.L.R.S.A. stands for the Greater Lafayette Recreational Soccer Alliance. We are a recreational league, and should not be confused with any other program in the area, such as local travel programs.

2. What is the cost for your program?

The cost is $30.00. A $10.00 late fee is applied (for a total of $40.00) if you register by mail after that time.

3. I have a four-year-old. Is he/she eligible to play with your league?

To play in the spring season, your child must be age 5 by March 1, 2008 in order to play with our league. However, we encourage you to register your child the following season, provided that he or she is age eligible at that time

4. Can you recommend any program in the area that might accept a 4-year-old?

While we are not involved with these programs, the YMCA and the McAllister Center do offer a program for younger children. There may be other programs in the area, about which you might consider asking the Chamber of Commerce.

5. We just moved into the area. What can you tell us about your league?

We are a non-profit recreational league, which offers a fun and affordable soccer experience. We focus primarily on teaching the fundamentals of the game. Our low cost is due, in part, to the fact that our board and coaches are comprised of volunteers. We have approximately between the two seasons of play 4,000 participants per year.

6. How often do you have sign-ups? We seem to keep missing the registration.

We have both a spring program as well as a fall program. Sign-up for the fall season is held in May, in order to run concurrently with the end of the spring season. We have found that this draws the most number of applicants before the summer break. The spring registration is generally held in January. We do advertise in the Journal and Courier, on the radio, and on our website at glrsa.org. If you miss any of these media outlets, we invite you to visit our website at glrsa.org for the most up-to-date information.

7. This is my child's first season with your league. What equipment does he/she need?

We require a pair of shin guards and recommend soccer cleats & a water bottle. Baseball/softball cleats are not allowed. Team shirts are provided for each player.

8. How long does each season last, and when do they play?

The fall season usually starts near the end of August and runs until the middle of October. The spring season usually starts in mid March and runs into the middle of May. Games are typically played on Saturdays. In the event of rain, make-up games are sometimes necessary to be scheduled for weeknights. You can expect your child to play at least seven games. The U10, U12, and U15 leagues host a single-elimination tournament, and the U6 and U8 brackets are typically scheduled for an 8th game.

9. How often and where will practice be held?

The days and times are left up to the respective coaches. You may expect a typical practice week to be a couple of times for an hour or so each practice.

10. I am unhappy with the times and dates that my child's coach has chosen to practice. Can he/she switch teams?

Unfortunately, this is a gamble you take when you sign up for soccer, as practice dates and times are up to the individual coaches. However inconvenient, this is something that the league can do nothing about. Please look into carpooling if this becomes an issue. Please remember that after the coaches receive their rosters, the allowance of any switches may leave one team with too many and another too few. Please look into carpooling if this becomes an issue.

11. If I am interested in registering my child, what do I do?

If you missed on-site registration, you are considered a "late applicant." This means that, while we will do everything to place your child on a team, placement is not guaranteed. Team placement will be on a first-come first-serve basis. If we are unable to place you child, your check will be refunded to you. A late fee will apply.

12. I would love for my children to play with your league, but I cannot afford the cost. Is there an alternative?

Yes. We do have a work equity program, which basically allows you to "work off" your child's registration cost if you cannot afford the registration fee. In that situation, we expect that the parent(s) "work off) the fee(s) by doing any number of things: these might include lining fields, mowing, sweeping fields of debris, etc.

13. What do we do if we have not yet heard from a coach?

The coaches do not receive their rosters until two weeks prior to the 1st game; please wait until one week before the 1st game to call the hotline or e-mail us with concerns that you have not yet received a call from a coach. After that time, we will be more-than happy to research this information for you.

14. I am a coach who would like to add an additional assistant coach. Do I call Rock and Roll Alley directly?

No. Please do not call Rock and Roll Alley. You will only be directed to call the hotline for permission to add another coach to your roster. At that time, please include the prospective coach's name, phone number, and size, so that we can best expedite your order.

15. I have a complaint to lodge about the referee of our game.

Although sometimes frustrating, please remember that in the game of soccer (even in the professional arena), the referee has the final word on most matters. Keep in mind that the referee cannot always see every alleged foul. Our referees always strive to do his or her best in catching any and all violations. You are welcome to lodge your complaint anyway, and your call will be duly noted. Please remember that positive feedback is welcomed just as much as negative feedback. We like to know how we're doing!

16. I would like to lodge a complaint about an unruly parent or a player who consistently seems to be playing too aggressively.

We take every complaint very seriously. If you have a complaint about a player or a parent, we ask that you do not leave the details on the hotline. Simply, please leave only the general complaint, along with your name, time and site of the game, and then appropriate area representative will contact you.

17. I have a general question.

I can't emphasize this enough. Please include your child's name and spelling, and his or her team and bracket and school district. Our league is divided in such a way that teams are broken into school districts and age brackets. Should you want to leave a message; the hotline caller can best expedite your call if you leave the most detailed message possible.

18. I have a child who registered, but has decided not to play after all.

We really appreciate these calls, because it means that we can replace your child with a child who is on a waiting list. In this instance, we hope to see your child next season!

19. My child has decided not to play soccer. May I get a refund?

As is stated on the registration form, there are no refunds offered. Please realize that the bulk of the cost of the registration fee lies in the time and effort of the area reps to process your registration, as well as the cost of the shirt. If your child chooses not to play, the league still has to incur the cost of the shirt as well the processing of your child.

20. I have lost something. Do you have a lost and found?

We do have a lost and found bin located beside concession stand at Davidson Fields. You are welcome to send an e-mail and describe the lost item. Your message will be forwarded on to the area reps to give them a heads-up.

21. What happens during the event of rain?

If rain occurs during practice time, it is up to the respective coaches, not the league, to make the call as to whether practice is cancelled or not. However, if rain occurs on game day, the league will make the call as to whether games will be played as scheduled. The hotline will be updated by 6:00am on Saturdays with regard to any cancellations due to inclement whether. However, as a rule of thumb, games will generally be played if there is no presence of lightning or a downpour. If there is no message on the hotline indicating a change in schedule due to bad weather, please assume that games will be played as scheduled, and the referee will make the call upon arrival.

22. I would like to reschedule my game?

We discourage the request to make game reschedules, however, if this is unavoidable; please first contact the opposing coach to determine a date and time that will best suit both teams. Then, send an e-mail with as much information as you can give regarding the change. Then, the scheduler will call to confirm any change.

23. Will my child have an end-of-season tournament?

Only those teams in the U10, U12, and U15 brackets are participants in the end-of-season tournament. The league feels that those in U6 and U8 are still mastering the fundamentals of the sport, and so have been scheduled an additional game (8 versus the normal 7 for the rest).
