GLRSA History

The organization was started by a group of enthusiastic, yet na├»ve, parents who wanted to take a city parks and recreation program to the next level. To allow access to more kids, the group organized in 1994 and took on responsibility for publication, promotion, rostering, sponsorship and executing two seasons per year: spring and fall. Participation that first season was about 400. Over the next few seasons, the participation grew exponentially.

Recreational soccer in GLRSA is comprised of 20 total divisions in varying levels of competitiveness:
  • Coed U5/U6 - Boys and girls are rostered on the same teams; no scores kept; coaches are on field with the players.
  • Boys and Girls U7 - Boys and girls are separated into separate divisions based on gender; introduction of a referee; one coach per team allowed on field.
  • Boys and Girls U8 - two referees on the field, scores/standings are kept but no post-season tournament, no coaches allowed on field.
  • Boys and Girls U9-U18 - two referees on field with licensed referees in the U14/U18 divisions; U9-U18 divisions host post-season tournaments.
The Boys and Girls U18 divisions only play during the spring season.

Participation has grown to over 4,500 kids per year (we serve 2,000 kids in the fall and 2,500 kids in the spring). We are the largest soccer organization in Tippecanoe County and provide an outstanding soccer experience to the youth in this community. The association is still run by volunteer parents and offers every child the opportunity to play soccer with scholarship assistance as needed. We keep our fees as low as possible to allow everyone the opportunity to participate.
